Youth Worker
Salary: £27,000 pro rata
Hours of work: 19 hours per week (flexible working weekends and evenings)
Normal place of work: St. Michael’s, Eastbourne; travelling to other locations may occasionally be required
Term: 12 months fixed term contract- subject to a 6 month probationary period

St. Michael’s is a vibrant, evangelical church that has seen rapid growth over the last two years. We have grown from a community of around 30 to over two hundred, and many of our church family (approximately 70) are aged under 16. We are passionate about engaging with our local community and sharing the good news of Jesus.
We long to raise up young people in their faith and enable them to share God’s incredible message of love and hope with their generation.
We pray that God will use us and all of the churches in Eastbourne to bring revival to our town and further afield.

The role of the Youth Worker is;
• To oversee and develop ministry for those between the ages of 11 & 18
@ St. Michael’s, Eastbourne
• To actively engage in reaching those who don’t already attend church.
• To oversee Odyssey, (St. Michael’s youth group) discipling,
encouraging and equipping the young people
• To develop a young adults ministry
• To recruit, encourage, resource and equip a volunteer team to lead alongside
them.
Please note that at St. Michael’s, we believe that ministry with
the youth is as important as ministry with the adults, so we consider the
holder of this position to be a key member of our leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
• Pioneer and grow the youth & young adult ministries at St. Michael’s.
• Develop an outreach strategy, including working with local schools.
• Ensure that Odyssey is a fun, vibrant place for young people to encounter
Jesus and grow in their gifts.
• Recruit & develop a team of volunteers.
• Ensure all safeguarding and health & safety requirements are met.
• Manage the department budget.
• Oversee a Sunday service led by the youth at various times throughout the year.

There is an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a
practising Christian, in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act
2010
Pre-appointment checks are required for the role (ie proof of identity, suitable references, an enhanced DBS check, completion of a Confidential Declaration form, original proof of qualifications, any relevant health information)
